With our longest running episode in 2025 so far, the VGM scene demonstrates that quality and quantity sometimes go hand in hand. In fact, so many releases contended for “album of the month” that we had to select two of them, one for our English episode and one for our Spanish episode.
We start things off with some classic VGM: “Ryu” from The OneUps‘ misleading Volume 4 (their 8th album), paving the way for what promises to be a few months full of OneUps-related content on the podcast. In tune, of course, with our beautiful cover art by Makoto.
After that, we jump right into our recommended releases, which include tributes to the music of Shoji Meguro (Persona 4), Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Koji Kondo (Yoshi’s Island), Darren Korb (Hades) and Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy II). In an assorted mix of genres that will blow your socks off.
For our community-focused segments, we highlight three different competitions, starting with Dwelling of Duels‘ “Rhythm Month” and “Tornado of Solos” (that’s right, two for the prize of one). And following up with OverClocked Remix‘s own “Game Set Mash!! Volume 3” dedicated to the music of Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage vs. Etryan Odyssey).
