This month’s selection was dominated by Square Enix music: we’ve got covers from Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy and of course, Chrono Trigger. March 11th marks it’s 30th anniversary, so the festivities continue. But first we open with an oldie but goodie: “Conquest” by the veteran Aussie jazz band The Consouls.
To keep it jazzy, we selected “Local Area Network” by the newcomers Split Screen. Leaded by Eric Ladish, the band surprised us last year with their self-titled debut album, and continue to deliver excellent jazz and fusion arrangements of deep cuts and popular tracks alike.
March was also full of interesting releases by the Game Grooves label, and independent artists like Ian Martyn, Ronin Op F and HoboKa. And while our OverClocked Remix segment is all about Final Fantasy, Joe Newman took home the gold at Dwelling of Duels with a long overdue and epic arrangement of Chrono Trigger‘s main theme.
We close off with a new and serious contender for our favorite track of the year: “Ebb” from the indie game Jusant, by the DoD newcomer Slowly Crushed. What an epic sendoff to a month that was equal parts exciting and difficult!
